After a dismal first period, it was the Captain that gave the Canes the needed shot in the arse. My man scored a beautiful goal in the 2nd that helped to wipe away Tampa's 3-0 lead.
Then Cully, who told Tripp he wanted to get "a real goal" in tonight's game, scored the next one, followed by Eric Staal.
Unfortunately Sergei Samsonov flipped the puck over the glass and went to the box for delay of game with less than 2 minutes in regulation. That their team went on the power play at the very end did nothing to rouse a lackluster crowd.
We went into overtime and Ray Whitney made a sweet pass to Staalsy, who buried it.
Un-freakin-believable. Staal, Whitney and Brind'amour each put up 2 points, and the d-men make a nice showing in the form of Pitkanen and Seidenberg. And my new fave Ruutu notched an assist as well.
Can't wait for Monday night. Hub and I get to see the new jerseys and the Red Wings in person! Wooot!

Nice way to start off the season!
I am one happy gal. We won 6-4, and Cully scored the empty netter! Welcome back, buddy!
Brindy was not/would not be denied. He made the scoreboard along with a slew of D-men.
Say what? D-men? All over the scoreboard?
You betcha. Frankie scored two assists and Nic Wallin got in there too. My sentimental fave Dennis Seidenberg got into the mix.
Joni Pitkanen tried to prove his worth tonight by notching a goal of his own. I hope this is a harbinger of things to come.
The AP gave stars to Ray "The Wizard" Whitney (1st), Pitkanen, and TIMMAY! Gleason respectively. I'm not sure about the Pitkanen star, but I'll roll with it.
I now have some insight into the parking woes. We left at 6:15 and got routed all the way to Westchase, parking behind Carter-Finley. We did manage to find our way back postgame without too much trouble, but jeez.
Still, we made it to our seats in time for the introduction of the staff and the team. I really felt for Justin Williams, who walked out in his suit to the bench looking like he wanted to bawl. And I think we were all there with him.
Our dear Captain was last to be introduced, and the roar was incredible. I'd say the only one who got close to that much noise was Matt Cullen, who has been sorely missed.
Plus I had barbecue and a couple of brewskies, so I'm feeling pretty good and looking forward to seeing the black jerseys debut on Monday. I saw a few people already wearing them and I have to say they look better in person.
Might just have to score a couple of #17's for me and Hub.

Today I am ashamed to be a Def Leppard fan; Joe Elliott's Stanley Cup Screwup
I am hanging my head in shame right now. The hockey fan in me trumps the Def Leppard fan in me. Read this story from Yahoo.
Are you telling me that in all of Mr. Elliott's forty-something years, he's never seen a Stanley Cup before? Whiskey-tango-foxtrot, Batman???
And in the bottom half of the the story, the biggest shocker of all: Brian Engblom CUT HIS MULLETT! Welcome to the oughts, Mr. Engblom. Glad you could finally make it.
Sheesh.
